Indian Big Curls Hair Care Guide

Your Indian Big Curls are designed to stay soft, full, defined, and juicy—but curly hair requires consistent moisture and gentle handling. Follow this routine to protect the curl pattern, reduce tangling, and keep the hair looking beautiful.

Before Installing

Gently wash and condition the bundles before installation to remove any residue from packaging and allow the natural curl pattern to fully form.

Do not aggressively brush or separate the curls while the hair is dry.

Recommended Products

For the best results, use lightweight, moisturizing products made for curly or textured hair.

Shampoo

Use a sulfate-free moisturizing shampoo.

Recommended types:

  • Hydrating shampoo
  • Moisture-repair shampoo
  • Gentle cleansing shampoo
  • Curly-hair shampoo

Avoid strong clarifying shampoos for regular washes because they may strip moisture from the hair. A clarifying shampoo may be used occasionally when there is heavy buildup.

Conditioner

Use a rich, moisturizing conditioner after every shampoo.

Look for products containing:

  • Aloe vera
  • Argan oil
  • Coconut milk
  • Shea butter
  • Avocado oil
  • Glycerin

Allow the conditioner to sit for 10–15 minutes before rinsing.

Curl-Defining Products

Use one or two lightweight products rather than layering several heavy products.

Best options:

  • Leave-in conditioner spray
  • Lightweight curl cream
  • Curl-defining mousse
  • Foam wrap or styling foam
  • Lightweight detangling spray

A curl mousse or foam is especially helpful for defining the curls without weighing them down.

Oils and Serums

Use only a small amount of lightweight oil or serum when needed.

Recommended:

  • Argan oil
  • Grapeseed oil
  • Lightweight silicone serum

Avoid applying thick oils, grease, heavy butters, or excessive edge-control products directly to the curls. Heavy products may cause buildup, stiffness, matting, and loss of movement.

How to Wash the Hair

  1. Gently detangle the hair before washing.
  2. Use your fingers or a wide-tooth comb, beginning at the ends and working upward.
  3. Wet the hair using lukewarm water.
  4. Apply shampoo in a downward motion.
  5. Do not rub, bunch, twist, or scrub the hair together.
  6. Rinse thoroughly.
  7. Apply conditioner generously from the middle of the hair through the ends.
  8. Detangle gently while the conditioner is still in the hair.
  9. Rinse with cool or lukewarm water.
  10. Gently squeeze out excess water using a microfiber towel or soft T-shirt.

Do not wring the hair out.

Air-Dry or Blow-Dry?

Air-drying is strongly recommended.

Air-drying helps preserve the curl pattern, reduces dryness, and minimizes heat damage.

After washing:

  1. Apply a lightweight leave-in conditioner.
  2. Add a small amount of curl mousse or foam.
  3. Scrunch the curls upward using your hands.
  4. Allow the hair to air-dry completely.
  5. Avoid touching or separating the curls repeatedly while they are drying.

When the hair is fully dry, gently separate a few curls with your fingers for additional volume.

Using a Blow-Dryer

A blow-dryer should only be used when necessary.

Use:

  • A diffuser attachment
  • Low heat
  • Low airflow
  • Heat protectant

Do not use high heat or direct concentrated airflow because it can cause frizz, dryness, and loosen the curl pattern.

Daily Curl Refresh

The hair does not need to be fully washed every time the curls need refreshing.

Create a light refresh mixture using:

  • Mostly water
  • A small amount of leave-in conditioner

Lightly mist the hair. Do not completely soak it.

Then:

  1. Detangle gently with your fingers.
  2. Apply a small amount of curl mousse where needed.
  3. Scrunch the curls upward.
  4. Allow the hair to air-dry.

Avoid adding heavy product every day. Too much product may cause buildup and make the curls appear dull or stiff.

Detangling Instructions

Always detangle the hair gently.

For the safest detangling:

  • Divide the hair into sections
  • Use your fingers first
  • Follow with a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush
  • Start at the ends
  • Slowly work upward
  • Detangle while the hair is damp and conditioned

Never pull through knots aggressively.

Avoid using fine-tooth combs or hard bristle brushes throughout the curls.

Nighttime Care

Proper nighttime protection is essential for preventing tangling and matting.

Before bed:

  1. Make sure the hair is completely dry.
  2. Separate the hair into two to four loose sections.
  3. Create loose twists or braids.
  4. Cover the hair with a satin bonnet or satin scarf.
  5. Sleep on a satin or silk pillowcase when possible.

Do not sleep with wet or damp hair. Sleeping on wet curls may lead to matting, tangling, odor, and damage.

Swimming and Exercise

Before swimming:

  • Apply a lightweight conditioner or leave-in product
  • Place the hair into loose braids
  • Wear a swim cap when possible

Wash and condition the hair shortly after exposure to chlorine or salt water.

After heavy workouts, allow the hair and scalp to dry completely. Lightly refresh the curls only when needed.

Heat Styling

Although the hair may tolerate heat, frequent heat styling is not recommended.

When using heat:

  • Always apply heat protectant
  • Use the lowest effective temperature
  • Avoid repeated straightening
  • Avoid excessive curling-iron use
  • Allow the hair to cool before styling or brushing

Heat may permanently loosen or alter the original curl pattern.

Products to Avoid

Avoid excessive use of:

  • Heavy grease
  • Thick hair butter
  • Strong-hold gel
  • Alcohol-heavy styling products
  • Excessive edge control
  • Dry shampoo buildup
  • High-heat tools
  • Fine-tooth combs
  • Heavy protein treatments

Too much protein may make the hair feel stiff or dry. Prioritize moisture unless the hair specifically needs strengthening.

Important Hair-Care Rules

  • Keep the hair moisturized, but do not overload it with product.
  • Detangle gently and patiently.
  • Air-dry whenever possible.
  • Never sleep with wet hair.
  • Protect the curls every night.
  • Avoid repeatedly brushing the hair while dry.
  • Wash out product buildup instead of continuing to layer products.
  • Treat the hair like your natural curls.

Simple Recommended Routine

Wash day: Sulfate-free shampoo, moisturizing conditioner, leave-in conditioner, curl mousse, and air-dry.

Between washes: Light water-and-leave-in mist, curl mousse when necessary, and gentle finger detangling.

Nightly: Loose twists or braids with a satin bonnet.

With intentional care, your Indian Big Curls can remain soft, full, defined, and beautifully voluminous wear after wear.
